Salary – £22,730 – £30,112 depending on experience

We have grown rapidly in the past decade from a single Dulwich practice to a team of over 500 employees dedicated to giving patients the very best in care.  The Pharmacy Technician role is based across our Albion Place medical Practice, Maidstone in Kent.

In the role you will; 


=       Support the Practice Based Clinical Pharmacists to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reducing medicines waste and maximising patient outcomes.  

=       The role will also include training and development of prescription clerks and administrators to support improved co-ordination and effective pharmacy administration within general practice, especially with relation to repeat prescribing systems and processes.  

=       You will also be required to assist in the safe management of the surgeries document workflow effectively, this will include consultant letters and discharge summaries that may require medication alterations. These actions will need to be completed within a timely manner and recorded accurately within a patient’s record. 

=       Assist on the production of blood forms when required. 

=       Recognise when a patient is in need of a medication review and to follow the correct process to ensure this is actioned and updated appropriately. 


Job responsibilities  


=       To undertake medicines reconciliation in accordance with practice protocols and to update patients’ medical records / prescribing accordingly.  

=       Support the Clinical and Admin Team by contributing to the review and development of the repeat prescribing policy and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of repeat prescribing systems.  

=       To provide advice to GPs, staff and patients in changes to prescribing to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness. 

=       To participate in medication audits.  

=       To take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions, including assessment of risk and making recommendations for improvement.  

=       To respond to medication queries from patients and staff in a professional manner referring to the appropriate Clinician in accordance with practice protocols. 

=       To advise on the sourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate.  

=       Be responsible for the organisation, planning and of own workload to meet set deadlines. 

=       To increase the use of Electronic Repeat Dispensing safely and effectively. 


Responsibility for administration  


Other duties and responsibilities to be undertaken may include any or all the items in the following list:  


=       Taking messages and passing on information as appropriate.  

=       Computer data entry/data allocation and collation, processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures.  

=       Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare professionals and providers.  

=       Helping to maintain a positive, patient focussed culture.  

=       Helping to maintain a positive, supportive culture across the whole of the practice team.  

=       Keep up to date with your CPD. 

Duties will vary from time to time dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels.  

You will have; 

=       At least5/6 years’ experience within pharmacy whether that’s community or hospital OR previous experience of a similar role within General Practice. 

=       Good knowledge of medicines eg: brands/generics, synchronisation, monitoring, drug alternatives 

=       Good knowledge ofEPS/eRD including the Prescription Tracker. 

=       Registered NVQ 3 Qualified PharmacyTechnician. 


The practice uses software such as EMIS web, DocMan, Accurx. Training will be given if knowledge of these is not yet present. 


The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a supportive practice team, to deliver safe and effective use of medicines by applying their clinical, pharmaceutical and technical skills. Applicants must meet the essential criteria in the job description and should also have significant experience within Primary Care settings. You will need good written and verbal communication skills, be well organised and able to work effectively alone and as part of a team.
